Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Via the equator

Following your breakfast at your place of residence in Kampala, you will embark on the trip to the famous Queen Elizabeth National Park, the journey of 417km which is about 7 hours’ drive. The drive to the south west of the country will be halted by a stop at Uganda Equator crossing Kayabwe 72km from Kampala to encounter the world’s main latitude that marks the point where the globe is divided into two halves, the southern and northern hemispheres.

A photo session at this world’s most unique position is a must for memories and remembrance for having stood in two different hemispheres at the same time. A local water experiment in a basin is also carried out to prove the geographical split-up between the two halves of the globe. After this encounter, you will continue on the journey to Bwindi driving past the pastoral lands of Ankole with impressive scenery and the views of cattle both long horned and Friesian grazing in this savannah rangeland. The views of Burchell’s Zebras and Impala straying from the adjacent Lake Mburo National Park may also be spotted as they graze among herds of cattle which is always an amazing encounter before making another stop at Igongo Cultural Center 12km to Mbarara town for a traditional lunch buffet exploring the local cuisine in detail. After lunch, you continue on the drive arriving in Queen Elizabeth in the evening for check in at your lodge, relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive. Afternoon boat cruise along Kazinga channel

After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, engage in an early game drive in the undulating savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park and the extensive Kasenyi tracks to explore the park’s unique scenery marked with numerous herds of wildlife including lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, water bucks, jackals and flocks of unfamiliar bird species. The activity normally lasts for 3 – 4 hours after which you return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.

After lunch, proceed for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. The channel boasts to be home to one of the largest concentrations of hippopotamus, as well as herds of elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife that come to drink from the river. The Kazinga also attracts a tremendous variety of bird species including the African Eagle, Open-Billed Stork, and Pied Kingfishers.

Later in the evening, you will head back to your lodge with a short game drive.

In the morning, embark on a fascinating experience to track Man’s closest relatives, the chimpanzees that live within the Kyambura escarpment. The experience is unforgettable; it’s a mixture of the Great Rift Valley scenic viewing and the adventurous activity to view the Chimpanzees in their natural habitat.

Have lunch and visit Hamukungu landing site on the shores of Lake George to experience the local touch, having a very memorable encounter with the local people the entire evening. Return to the lodge in the evening for supper and overnight stay.

Day 4: Game Drive in Ishasha sector and transfer to Bwindi national park

In the morning, continue with a game drive to the southern sector of Ishasha. Ishasha is a home to the elusive climbing lions which perch high in the fig trees. These unique Species are only found in this part of Uganda with another group known to be living in Lake Manyara National Park in the south of Tanzania. However, low lying fig trees of Ishasha offers a closer contact these unfamiliar species than any other part.

And later continue towards the south to Bwindi impenetrable national park for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Following breakfast at your lodge, you will assemble at the designated park headquarters in the region where you are going to trek for briefing and instructions at 8am. The briefing is conducted by the park staff and it stipulates the code of conduct and behavior to be exhibited while trekking gorillas, at this moment the gorilla family to be tracked is allocated a maximum number of eight (8) individuals. The eventual tour to the misty landscape is a notable experience that will form part of your life time memories. The misty covered forest that offers an amazing adventure hike amidst the thick jungles in the moist morning is so rewarding. The activity tends to last between 2 – 8 hours inclusive of one hour direct encounter with the gorillas themselves.

Your concentration will be on your cameras as you take as many photos as you wish without flash light to avoid provoking gorillas to reaction. Retreat from the activity when your time gets exhausted and then reassemble at the starting point.

Day 6: Transfer to Kampala. Departure

After a warm cup of tea, undertake the journey of 437km back to Kampala, about 7 hours’ drive. The drive is quite long though impressive as you traverse the country side sceneries scattered with rural homesteads, cattle farms and extensive banana plantations. The en route small towns bustling with all kinds of local trade and informal businesses that will occupy your journey back to Kampala. Have a stop at the Uganda equator for a last photo moment, and continue to Kampala / Entebbe for your departure flight.
