Marakele National Park is in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains. It has become a place of sanctuary for an impressive variety of wildlife. This is due to its location in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa. There will also be contracting of the majestic mountain landscapes, grass clad hills. Then even the deep valleys which are characterized by the park.

There are the rare yellow woods and the cedar trees, five meter high cycads and the tree ferns which are some of the plant species found here. Marakele National Park is known for its large game species from elephant and the Rhino to the big cats as well as an amazing variety of birds including what‘s probably the largest colony of the endangered cape vultures in the world.

The most areas of special interest also include; the narrow tar road which takes the visitor’s up to the top of the Waterberg massif. The views and the scenery are also spectacular. One is also in the proximity of the vulture colony and these large birds will soar past at close quarters. The most things to be viewed also include; African elephants, leopards, Kudu, cape vulture and many more.
